"Erfreuliche Neuigkeiten für Österreichs Post-Punk-Szene: Die Minimal-Pop- bzw. Post-Punk-Band POSTMAN veröffentlichte am 10. September 2016 ihr Debütalbum „there“ (Epileptic Media). Voller Ruhe und (anti-)konzeptuell betreten vier Architekten die Welt der Musik.

Wie klingt es, wenn vier praktizierende Architekten Musik machen? POSTMAN zeigen das mit ihrem Debüt: stilvoll, voller Mysterien und kompositorisch durchdacht. Eva Teissl, Clemens Stöttinger, Michael Schmid und Dominik Leitner machen eine Mischung aus Minimal Pop, Post Punk, Wave und Art Rock, wobei die Post-Punk-Merkmale überwiegen. Ausgestattet mit einer Drum Machine, Drum- und Orgelpatterns präsentiert das Quartett die Kunst des uncreative writing, bleibt dabei jedoch genau so cool wie seine Musik.

Die Titel der Tracks sind genauso gut durchdacht wie die Musik selbst: So heißt die erste Nummer „desert2“. Mit völlig reduzierter instrumentaler Unterstützung sprechsingen die Musiker unzusammenhängende lyrische Wortkombinationen, die dem Lied einen sehr abstrakten Charakter verleihen. Diese Abstraktion zieht sich durch das ganze Album, die einzelnen Songs sind aufgezogen wie architektonische Entwürfe, präzise und ineinanderfließend. Ab und zu bekommen die Gitarren einen höheren Stellenwert als die Stimmen, sie zeichnen klare Linien in die Tracks und holen die Zuhörenden aus dem Traumland des Minimalismus.

Der Titelsong „there“ ist anfangs noch recht drumlastig, wird jedoch bald ergänzt mit raunender Stimme und brummenden Gitarren. Es wirkt fast so, als würde man die Musik durch einen Nebel hören, als könnte man sie physisch erfassen, wenn sie nur nah genug wäre. POSTMAN bezeichnen ihr Album sowohl als konzeptuell als auch als antikonzeptuell, beides ist verständlich, da zwar klar ein Konzept und eine durchdachte Komposition hinter den Liedern stehen, die Musik selbst aber all das mit Diffusität und klanglicher Weitläufigkeit zunichtemacht. Das Album schließt mit „desert1“, einem der wenigen Lieder, in dem man die Stimme, die mit den Instrumenten eine großes Ganzes wird, klar hört."
